DELTA® MIDI-LATHE® Introductions Showcase Best In Class Capability and Performance

JACKSON, Tenn. (August 20, 2008) – DELTA Machinery offers the superior control, performance and capability of larger lathes in the form of new MIDI-LATHE® introductions. Featuring the first reversing benchtop lathe, the new lathes, including a variable-speed and a five-speed version, were shown at the 2008 International Woodworking Fair (IWF) from Aug. 20 to Aug. 23 at Booth #5413 in the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

With a best in class swing capacity, the variable-speed (model 46-460) and five-speed (model 46-455) benchtop lathe allow for the turning of a variety of decorative projects up to 12-1/2 inches in diameter. In addition, the lathes offer 16-1/2 inches of center-to-center capacity – allowing the turning of pieces ranging from long chair legs to short thimbles.

A patented quick-change belt tensioning system eliminates guesswork and belt slippage, while extending tool life, by reducing the steps to change speed ranges from seven to three. The belt tensioning system ensures smooth belt-pulley speed range transitions, accurate belt tension setting and maximum torque transfers. Power transfers are enhanced using wider belts with additional groves.

MODEL 46-460
With an electronic variable-speed range from 250 to 4,000 revolutions-per-minute, the DELTA® 46-460 offers the slowest low-end speed in the category for large turning, whereas the fastest high-end speed is ideal for smaller projects.

Offering the capability to rotate forward and reverse, the 46-460 is the only reversible benchtop lathe on the market. The reversing function provides for the super smooth sanding of multi-directional grain by cutting the fibers smooth in each direction verses simply laying the fibers down.

This function eliminates the difficult and sometimes impossible task of reverse mounting work pieces in order to sand and finish. Ideal for turning bowls and hollow vases, the reversing action aims harmful fine dust away from the turner and directly into the dust collector as well.

With a powerful one peak horsepower motor, the variable-speed lathe, model 46-460, will be available for purchase in second quarter 2009 with a suggested retail value of $599.

MODEL 46-455
Designed with easy front panel access and a range of previously described features, the DELTA® 46-455 reduces down time and increases productivity when switching between five-speed controls of 500, 950, 1,550, 2,700 and 4,000 RPM.

The 46-455, powered by a 3/4-peak horsepower motor, will be available for purchase in second quarter 2009 with a suggested retail value of $499.

Additional features of the lathes include a 3-inch faceplate, as well as 6-inch and 10-inch tool rests for the turning of small and large spindles, respectively. The lathes also are equipped with an indexing pin to lock the head stock spindle in 24 different locations for fluting and other decorative applications.

As accessories, a reversible chuck (46-461), stand (46-462), stand extension (46-464), and a modular bed extension (46-463) will be available. Each bed extension increases bed length 25-1/2 inches up to a maximum of 93 inches between centers.

Both benchtop lathes will be covered with a new five-year limited warranty as part of the industry’s most comprehensive warranty and service network of 89 factory-owned service centers. For additional information on tool specifications, availability and warranty, visit
